Why should I become a Benefits Liaison?
  • To provide Social Security beneficiaries with accurate information about work incentives so that they can make informed choices.
  • To help Iowans with disabilities understand that they can use work incentives so that they become more economically secure. See BL Role Description.
How much extra time will this take?
  • The Initial Screening Profile is information that you are already collecting from individuals through your intake process.
  • If you do not have the time to provide the information at any time, you can refer to Iowa WIPA project.
How much training is involved?
How will I know when to refer individuals to IowaWIPA?
  • Through the trainings, you will learn when to refer a customer.
  • Iowa WIPA will be available for consultation and technical support as needed.
Will Benefit Liaisons be doing actual benefits planning?
  • No, BL will only be providing basic information and connecting individuals with IowaWIPA.
How will being a part of this network help Iowans?
  • By helping to make work incentive knowledge available to all Iowans with disabilities who are on Social Security and want to work.
  • By being a part of a network that not only provides SSA information but also has connections with other resources across Iowa.
